The story tells, that the tradition of letting oil lanterns flow in the river Namgang originated in the years of Imjin War (1592-1598). In 1592, Japan assaulted Korea, and for 6 years Koreans bravely fought the Japanese army to defend the independence of the country. The Jinju-son fortress on the shores of the Namgang river, was the most important stronghold in the south of Korea.

Koreans used the lanterns as military signals, but after the war the tradition changed: these days it is more to remember the fallen in the war Korean warriers; these days these centeries long tradition has become the foundation of a big cultural festival.

09:30 Seoul city tour

This entertaining and informative tour combines walking experience with transportation by our bus/mini-van. You will see:

  • The geographical centre and the highest point of today's Seoul, N-Tower; the tower has become not only a must-see for every visitor of the Korean capital, but also a kind of romantic mecca for couples; perharps, this is the reason why it is more crowded in romantic evenings than in the prosaic light of the day? For groups 1-3 persons N-Tower is replaced with Bugak Sky Way
  • Next, we are going to see a symbiosis of urban landscape archetecture and nature, the Cheonggyecheon stream; there is hardly any piece in this astonishly naturally looking stream, which was not touched or brought by man - the bed of the stream, the banks, the water itself is broght here by pumps...
  • We are going now to the so-called Souvenir Street, Insadong; there you are able to see the vivid street life of Seoul
  • The tour continues to a royal palace, Here our professional guide will introduce to you the palace culture and architecture, the customs of th e royal family, the symbolic meaning of the material attributes of the palace.
  • And of course, the youth fashion and culture district Myeong-dong, a place of pilgrimage for shoppers from all over the globe, shall be a delightful contribution to the programme.

  • Due to traffice jams, there may be minor changes in the programme.
  • The tour finishes at the hotel, where the tour started, unless otherwise specified.

09:30 Folk Village (Yongin)-Wawujeongsa Temple - Everland Theme Park

Yongin Folk Village

The first and the biggest in Korea folk village.

There are over 260 buildings in the village, among which you con find dwellings of members of different social layers of Korea, state institutions, drug stores, artisans' houses etc. It is not just a 'still' exposition: during the day you can enjoy perfomances of fok dance and music, an authentic marriage ceremony , show and concerts.

You can expericence the authentic atmoshpere of the late Chosun dynasty in the folk village; different parts of Korea are represented by their corresponding dwellings: from stone-walled houses of the Jeju Island to the Confusian acedemy, from village market place to the provincial official house.

It is a place to relax and ejnoy youself - geniually, the village looks more like a vast park, where in the midst of summer you can always find a shelter from the sun, in the midst of winter, you can warm yourself with a dance and music...

Wawoojongsa Temple was established in 1970 by Kim Hae-Geun, a monk who was displaced by the Korean War. The temple is not only a reflection of the monk’s sincere hope for the reunification of the North and South, but is also the birthplace of the Korean Buddhist Nirvana Order.

There are over 3,000 Buddhist statues on the temple grounds, the most famous of which are the Buldu (Buddha heads) placed at the entrance and the Wabul (reclining Buddha statue) stationed in the middle of the mountain. The 8m-high Buldu is the largest of its kind and the Wabul, which is made from a juniper tree from Indonesia, is 3m in height and 12m in length. As the world’s biggest wooden Buddhist sculpture, the Buldu has been registered in the Guinness Book of Records.

The temple is also home to a 5-Dhyani Buddha made of 30 tons of brass (taking decades to complete) as well as the 12-ton Bell of Unification (struck during the Seoul Olympics in 1988). Other attractions include a bronze statue of Buddha sitting with his legs half-crossed (the largest of its kind in the nation) and the nation’s only Sakyamuni Bulgohangsang statue.

One of the other unique things about the temple is the Pagoda of Unification, located besides the stairs of the Hall of Nirvana. The pagoda is comprised of stones brought by visitors from various holy sites all over the world. Hence, the construction of the Pagoda is a never-ending progress. As a symbol of the pervading hope for world peace, a wide range of Buddhist statues from many countries including India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, China and Thailand are on display around the temple, allowing visitors to learn about Buddhist cultures from all over the world.

Amusement park "Everland" offers visitors more than 40 exciting rides (roller coasters, Hurricane, Double RockSpin, the Amazon Adventure etc). There is also a Zoo with two different types of safari: Safary World and Lost Valley (the latter mainly introduces herbivores, the former - predators). The seasonal festivals: Christmas, Halloween, Summer Splash parade...

T-express boasts to be the most thrilling roller coaster in Asia:

  • 1st in Asia and 8th in the world in speed (104 km / h)
  • 1st in Asia and the 7th in the world in height (57 m)
  • 1st in Asia and 6th in the world in length (3 minutes)

Everladn offers colorful shows and parades throughout the day, including a delightful night-time multimedia show and fireworks.

Kids and adults love it!

In 1970 Sonnisan officially becomes the sixth national park in Korea. It is called small or second Keumgangsan (Kumgang Mountains, located in North Korea, are considered by the Koreans the most beautiful on the peninsula).

Its total area - 274.54 sq. km. The highest mountain is Chhonvanbong (1058 m).

Monastery Popchusa: "The place where the law lives / resides", the law refers to the Buddhist law - dharma.

The temple/monastery is believed to have been built in 6th to 8th, or even to the 13th century AD. Even if it was only the 13th century, it is an old monastery;there are some ancient relics there, but a modern statue of Maitreya Buddha (height 33 m) you will see on the premisis strikes the imagination too.
