Yongin Folk Village

The first and the biggest in Korea folk village.

There are over 260 buildings in the village, among which you con find dwellings of members of different social layers of Korea, state institutions, drug stores, artisans' houses etc. It is not just a 'still' exposition: during the day you can enjoy perfomances of fok dance and music, an authentic marriage ceremony , show and concerts.

folk village in YonginYou can expericence the authentic atmoshpere of the late Chosun dynasty in the folk village; different parts of Korea are represented by their corresponding dwellings: from stone-walled houses of the Jeju Island to the Confusian acedemy, from village market place to the provincial official house.

It is a place to relax and ejnoy youself - geniually, the village looks more like a vast park, where in the midst of summer you can always find a shelter from the sun, in the midst of winter, you can warm yourself with a dance and music...

14:00
Gangnam Tour

DMZ, or Demilitarized Zone, is a 4-km wide zone, 2 km from each side of the Military Demarcation Line, an actual border between the North and South Korea.

This zone, which is situated roughly along the 38th parallel, is probably the most heavily garded border in the world, since both states are actually in the state of Armistice singed in 1953. It is one of the most popular tourist locations too, as it represents one of the 20th century's tragedies of devided states.

This tour includes:

Ganghwa-do: dolmens, Koryo kingdom relics, the oldest Buddhist temple in Korea

Ganghwa History Museum - Jeondeungsa temple - Dolmens - Forts

A tour through Ganghwa Island, called “a museum under the open sky”, is a lovely tour through rural Korea. It has been a “special” island for Koreans since the Bronze Age. One of the highlights is a UNESCO heritage site, the dolmens of Ganghwa. Along with taking in the beautiful landscape, it is intriguing to see one of these structures that are usually only found in the British Isles and Northern France.

Another highlight of this tour is a visit through one of the forts. They are mostly remnants of the 19th century when foreign powers were continuously forcing Korea to open.

Jeondeungsa temple is said to be the oldest temple on the territory of Korea. There was a battle between French and Korean forces during the so called “Western disturbance of the Byeong-in year”. Among other interesting points of the monastery are the remnants of the fortress built by the sons of the legendary founder of Korea - Tangun, historical archives of the kingdom of Chosun. The temple is situated inside the mentioned fortress, which makes it a very picturesque place to visit.

Korea Temple Food master class

Korean temple (Buddhist) cuisine.

The true value of temple food is revealed in the understanding of the Buddhist food culture and the philosophical foundations of the teaching. Historically, temple food is food for the following monks' paths; However, in the modern world, it is becoming available for laymen and foreign guests of Korea. Understanding the purpose of cooking and eating from the perspective of a Buddhist believer, we, nevertheless, can relate to this peculiar cuisine in terms of proper and harmonious nutrition, diet and, not surprisingly, very tasty food.

We will get acquainted with the recipe and create, under the watchful guidance of a monk teacher or a nun, one of the traditional Buddhist dishes, which will become our lunch today!

12:00
Gyeongbok Palace, Folk Museum, souvenir and artisans street - Insadong, Jogesa Buddist temple (walking)

Tour of the royal palace of Gyeongbokgung.

Gyeongbokgung Palace was the first residence of the new dynasty of Korea – Chosun. Construction of the palace was completed in 1395.

During the war with Japan (1592-1598), the palace was almost completely destroyed; but it was rebuilt in the middle of the 19th century, and again became the residence of the Korean kings.

There is a regular guards changing ceremony in the palace, recreated according to court etiquette of the Lee/Chosun Dynasty.

There are 3 museums on the palace grounds: the palace itself, the National Folklore (Ethnographic) Museum and the National Palace Museum.

(on Tuesdays Gyeongbokgung and the National Folk Museum is replaced with a tour of Changdeokgung, UNESCO World Heritage and a astroll along Cheonggecheon Stream, a landmark of Seoul)

National Folk Museum

An excursion to the National Folk Museum is also included in this tour. Here you can get acquainted with the life of a Korean both in times yonder and nowadays, the rites of the life cycle, the history of Korea.

We will continue with a walk through the famous traditional shopping and souvenir street, Insadong. Here is where you can find lovely antiques and traditional gifts as well as drink traditional Korean tea.

Buddhist Temple Chogyesa.

The small temple, located in the heart of Seoul, is the main temple of the largest school of Seon (Zen) Buddhism in Korea. This school bears the same name - Chogye - as the temple itself. It still holds an important role in Buddhism for many Koreans in Seoul.
