🌊 Tongyeong and Turtle Ship 🐢
One of the most famous sights of the city is the model of the turtle ship. This incredible piece of art is in honor of the great naval strategist Yi Sun-sin, who won one of his greatest victories in the waters of the South Sea just off Tongyeong. The model of the turtle ship is a symbol of strength, valor and national pride of the Korean people.
🌸 Tsushima and the horizon 🌅
From Tongyeong, by the way, opens a view of the Japanese island of Tsushima, which, it turns out, lies very close to Tongyeong.
Tongyeong has recently embraced digital civilization. Why do the beautiful, in the light of our daylight, the mountains, go through the night? Let's, the people of Tongyeong decided, take one such mountain and paint it with all the colors of digital art. The result is an attraction that brings to life the graffiti that peacefully decorates the Tongyeong area under and on the slopes of this mountain.
Have you heard of chhumu-gimbap?
Kimbap is such a delicious Korean food - rolls, inside - anything (cucumber, tuna, sausage, carrot ...), then - a rice cylinder enveloping the filling; outside - kim algae. Kimbap is cut into "washers" and eaten with pleasure. In breakfast-lunch-picnic boxes, which (boxes) are called "tosirak" (resembles nothing), you will most often find kimbap.
Chungmu is the old name for Tongyeong. They cook a special gimbap there (which, however, you can easily find in other parts of Korea). Inside short, with a finger and thin (approx. 1 cm in diameter) you will find only rice. Radish kimchi is served separately, they are not put inside. This kimpam is not cut with pucks, so they eat it directly with “fingers”, and not in one bite, but biting off from the “fingers” a little bit. Yes, they don’t eat it with our fingers: a wooden toothpick is inserted into the chunmu-gimbap, so that it is easier to pick it up. Previously, in general, kimbap, omuk - "fish dough", kimchi from radish was strung on skewers and served in the form of shish kebabs. (And they didn’t put it in the “tosirak” as it is now).
If you don't get to Tongyeong, you can try a parody of it, which, however, also became famous, Myeongdong. Between the parody and the original lie the depths of space...
