So you're planning a day trip to Gyeongju but don't know where to start. So much to see, so much to do, but so little time, not to mention budgetary constraints. We have gathered around our Round Table for you and here are our answers to your questions about Gyeongju Day Trip.

Before leaving...

So we're going to Gyeongju! Here's something to think about before you hit the road.

Are you going for the day or overnight?

You will definitely see a lot in Gyeongju in a day. But not all. Consider maybe an overnight stay would suit you better if you're in the mood for an uncompromising exploration of Gyeongju. In Gyeongju, you will find a wide range of hotels - from Hiltons to budget 3* hotels, as well as guesthouses and hostels for every taste. A feature of Gyeongju is the remoteness of the "hotel" zone - the so-called resort area of Lake Pomun - from the historical center, where you should count on hostels / guesthouses.

Weather

If you have the luxury of being able to choose the day of your trip depending on the weather, we recommend checking the forecast. Most attractions are located outdoors, so a walk in heavy rain (for example, during the rainy season - late June - late July approximately) or sweltering heat (in summer, outside the rainy season; although sometimes rain is accompanied by high air temperatures) is unlikely to give you as much pleasure as a soothing trip to a quiet, warm autumn or blooming spring. In winter, by the way, Korea is cold but dry; And there are far fewer tourists!

What to watch?
hermitage: the habitation of a hermit

The Bulguksa Temple and its Seokguram Hermitage are must-see places. An interesting museum is the excavation site of the Cheongmacheon Mound, the 7th century Cheosongdae Observatory, the Gyeongju National Museum are also on the must-see list (and on the UNESCO World Heritage List, by the way).

What else to see?

If you like trekking - Namsan mountain offers you several routes of medium difficulty; on the way you can enjoy the sculptures, bas-reliefs, reliefs, picturesquely scattered on the slopes of the mountain in the first millennium of our era. The Hwangnam-dong area, located at the main entrance of the Great Mound Park where Cheongmacheon is located, is a great place for walking, lunch, dinner and snacks, as is the Gyocheon area; both areas provide excellent photo opportunities with their tiled roofs in the background. At a considerable distance from the center of Gyeongju - about half an hour by car - you will find the famous Kolgulsa Monastery, famous for its cave temple complex and the opportunity to learn the martial art of sonmudo; By the way, many Buddhist temples, including Kolgulsa and Pulguksa, provide the opportunity to spend the night and get acquainted with the life of monks / novices on their own experience.
