Stars included

The father of a wealthy family, more precisely, the actor who plays the role of Park Tonic (the father, that is) is suspected of drug use. Lee Sung-kyun even voluntarily (?) withdrew from the filming of the NO WAY OUT series, which began literally before the scandal.

G-Dragon, a K-pop star, is also the subject of a police investigation. Recently, a doctor was arrested in Korea, suspected of supplying drugs to celebrities. However, the stars are of a significant magnitude...

On October 25, the police arrested a man who was distributing drug advertisements near university campuses in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province. A man in his 40s advertised liquid marijuana by slipping "business" cards under windshield wipers, lockers, and doors. Almost without hiding.

And policemen...

In August, a police officer chose to join a "festive" gathering and leaped from an apartment. A drug-influenced driver, instead of staying home, careened onto a sidewalk, striking a pedestrian.

In June, a teenager under the influence attempted to force open an emergency exit on an airplane.

Such incidents are causing some concern - such occurrences are not typical in Korea. Or are they becoming so?

Nearly 13,000 individuals were arrested in Korea over 8 months in 2023; in the same period in 2022, about 12,400 were arrested on drug-related charges. The increase is significant even over a year.

In 9 months of 2023, the customs seized nearly 500 kg of drugs at the country's border. A 29% increase from the previous year!

Social media actively "assists" in the proliferation of drugs among youth. The number of teenagers apprehended in connection with this has almost doubled in a year!

Let's return to the celebrities. Many of them "disappear" after scandals; yet, sometimes they resurface on screens...

So, that's where the social advertisement "Just Don't Even Think About It!" started appearing in buses. The government is fighting the issue on multiple fronts: intensifying border measures to curb drug smuggling, and working on tackling dealers and distributors among the youth.
