Haeinsa (Temple of Reflection in a Calm Sea) was founded in 802. During the centures, it has been several times rebuilt or restored.
It contains a set of the famous Buddhist scriptures Tripitaka Koreana, carved on more than 80 thousands of wooden blocks, treated in a special way in order not to be destroyed by time and weather.
Haeinsa is one of three Korean temples of Triratna (Kor. 삼보 사), representing one of the three entities of Triratna - Buddhist law (Dharma).
In 1995, UNESCO included Haeinsa in the World Heritage.
The temple is located at the foot of the mountains that form theKayasan National Park, considered one of the 8 most beautiful sceneries of the Joseon period. The tracking tour of Kayasan is part of this excursion.
