Daecheongbong – The Big Blue Peak

Daecheongbong, or “Big Blue Peak,” is a symbol of Seoraksan National Park and one of its most popular peaks. The Hangyeryeong Trail combines stunning views, rich natural landscapes, and the challenge of traversing steep sections to fully experience the magnificence of the mountains.

The trail begins at Hangyeryeong Visitor Center, situated at an altitude of 1,004 meters. It takes hikers through scenic slopes, mountain ranges, and waterfalls, connecting the Inner and Southern Seorak regions.

Starting Point: Hangyeryeong Visitor Center – Daecheongbong

Length: 8.3 km (approximately 5 hours 20 minutes)

Hangyeryeong serves as a pass at the boundary between the Yeongdong and Yeongseo districts, as well as Inner and Southern Seoraksan. From this vantage point, the scenic landscapes of Manmulsan unfold in all their glory.

Starting from the Hangyeryeong Visitor Center, the ascent begins. After about 2 hours of hiking, you’ll reach Hangyeryeong Samgori Junction. Turning right here, the trail leads past Geuncheong Peak to Daecheongbong. While the section up to Samgori is steep, the trail along the ridge from the junction becomes gentler.

Daecheongbong – Heungak Rest Area

Length: 2.5 km (approximately 2 hours 10 minutes)
Features:
This section from Daecheongbong to Soucheongbong follows a typical ridge trail with a gentle descent. It offers breathtaking views of Seoraksan, allowing hikers to enjoy the natural beauty despite their fatigue.

Heungak Rest Area – Biseongdae

From Heungak Shelter to Biseongdae, the route includes stairs and wooden boardwalks. The path between steep cliffs and the riverbed poses a constant risk of falling rocks, requiring extra caution. Biseongdae – Sogongwon

Length: 3.0 km (1 hour 20 minutes)
Description:
The final stretch is an easy descent through valleys and forests. Along the way, hikers can admire a bronze Buddha statue and enjoy the serene streams and rock formations.
